Player has bad connotations. And for good reason. Players, usually men, cruise clubs and peacock around in their white-framed sunglasses and shirts open to the sternum. Their only intent is to pick up women and take them to bed. For anyone intent on a relationship, the player is the worst possible person to meet.
Player-Dater vs. Serial Dater
Then there is the serial dater. This person may have a pure heart and honest intentions, but doesn't want to commit to building a relationship with one person. Often, they may be like a kid in a candy store. Online dating services, offering up so many attractive new people, are the candy stores.
A player-dater is a bit different. He does not have the oft-honest intentions of a serial dater.
At the same time, he is not like a player in that he does not seek to take a woman from club to bed in less than 30 minutes. Players often have no dates at all; dates are anathema to them, because even this represents too much commitment.
A player-dater "plays" through the dates, and the dates are usually set up through online dating services. He may enjoy many aspects of the date (dinner, dancing, romancing) but the date will be incomplete unless it concludes with doing the nasty.
