Gay.com Dating Site Review: Right For You?

Gay.com Dating Site Review: Right For You?

©homohistory.blogspot.com If you're gay, bi, or transgender, depending on what you're hoping to find, you now have the dubious pleasure of trying to sort through as many confusing dating site options as your straight brothers and sisters.

Everyone already knows about the iconic hookup app Grindr (read our review here) which instantly locates others in your exact location, but if you are seeking more of a traditional date or long term relationship, you will want to look elsewhere.

Gay.com: Relationship, Dating, and Hook-up

1. Gay.com, with over 3 million members, offers an easy and entertaining sign up process. You can easily set up your parameters, fill out a profile, and have some fun with the various features, listed below.

One highlight that you won't find on your divorced mother's dating site is the option for "Position": Giver/Top, Receiver/Bottom, and Switch/Versatile.  Or maybe Leather is your thing? If so, indicate your preferences within each category: Master? Trainer? Submissive? This site lays it all out there for you to play with.

Another unique feature that Gay.com encourages participation in is a Community, which here means a cluster of men who are attracted to or identify with a specific type of guy.

Think: Twink (young appearance, slender, no facial hair, generally ectomorphic), Bear (generally hairy, larger, usually masculine), Military,  Circuit (partier), College,  and even the innovative category for "Poz", which is short for HIV+ (can only be accessed by registering as a POZ member). Other categories and search functions make browsing easy and fun.

What Kind Of Guys Are Here, And What Are They Looking For?

We're sure that there are a good amount of guys looking for something other than a quickie, but since the site features so many options to identify your sexual preferences and identification, and gives many suggestions for members to interact this way, the site gives the impression of being weighted towards the quickie or hook up.

That said, there are plenty of opportunities to make yourself and your preferences known. It might just take a little longer.

Our short experiment included filling out the merest shadow of a profile, with a one line self description, and one photo of our decent looking guy, with our zip code. We posted one quick "Hey there!" in a chat community, and waited. Within a short window, we received 4 responses, mainly looking for hot sex (but we must say that we were not specifically seeking a "relationship" initially. We did receive one message from a guy seeking a long term relationship, but he was 981 miles away. We've updated our status to reflect our desire for a relationship and commitment, and we'll keep you posted.

The PRICE, gurus, the PRICE?

Gay.com's basic membership is free for the basic membership, which unlike other "free" sites, are only free to browse...but block your ability to send/respond to messages or chat until you purchase a membership. Gay.com allows you to upload photos, contact other members via chat or email, and join a community. The only limitation is the amount of browsing or "finding guys" in your search parameters, in which case you may find you like the site enough to purchase a premium membership.

Our Rating?

B+ for usability, quick results, fun and interactive site. We like the options to seek a LTR or a hookup, or even just the satisfaction of virtual satisfaction (chat or video). The site doesn't purport to be one or the other, and leaves it up to you to choose your preference. It can be pricy, but we think an entire year for less than $50.00 isn't so bad.

Check out our reviews for Okcupid, Match.Com, and Grindr, just to name a few gay-inclusive mainstream sites.
